Mary Tomayko, MD, PhD is an Associate Professor of Dermatology and Pathology at Yale University School of Medicine. She serves as Director of the Yale Immunobullous Clinic and Director of Dermatology Medical Student Education. Dr. Tomayko is actively involved in clinical care at Yale Medicine Dermatology, Yale Health, and Yale New Haven Hospital. Her research focuses on understanding immune dysregulation in bullous pemphigoid and mechanisms of long-lasting immunity. The Tomayko Lab has made significant contributions to understanding memory B cell biology, identifying novel pathways essential for immune memory. Her NIH-funded research bridges basic science with clinical applications for autoimmune skin diseases. Dr. Tomayko's clinical expertise encompasses complex autoimmune and inflammatory skin disorders including pemphigus, pemphigoid, epidermolysis bullosa acquisita, atopic dermatitis, vitiligo, alopecia areata, and psoriasis. She employs a comprehensive treatment approach using systemic immunomodulators, biologic agents, traditional immunosuppressants, and phototherapy. Her recent publications (2023-2025) demonstrate active research in autoimmune blistering diseases, with significant work on the psychosocial burden of these conditions, immune checkpoint inhibitor-related dermatological complications, and translational immunology research. Her collaborative work spans multiple disciplines including oncology, immunology, and medical education.
