Academic Profile Professor Elaine Dzierzak holds the Chair of Haematologic Regeneration at the University of Edinburgh since 2013. Previously, she served for 17 years at Erasmus University Medical Center in Rotterdam, where she was Professor of Developmental Biology (1996-2013) and Director of the Erasmus MC Stem Cell Institute (2008-2013). Her earlier career includes positions at the National Institute for Medical Research in London and postdoctoral training at MIT Whitehead Institute. Research Focus Professor Dzierzak leads groundbreaking research in developmental haematopoiesis, with particular expertise in: Hematopoietic stem cell origin and development Aorta-gonad-mesonephros (AGM) biology Endothelial-to-hematopoietic transition mechanisms Stem cell microenvironments in embryonic and placental tissues Transcriptional regulation of blood formation Her laboratory has developed innovative 3D imaging approaches to study blood cell emergence in vivo.
