Professor Gopal Ramchurn is a Professor of Artificial Intelligence at the University of Southampton. He leads research in human-swarm interaction, explainable AI (XAI), and responsible AI governance. His work spans interdisciplinary projects funded by EPSRC, BAE Systems, and AXA SA, focusing on applications in healthcare, maritime systems, and autonomous technologies. He is a member of the Agents, Interaction and Complexity research group and contributes to initiatives like the National Edge AI Hub and the AI UK ecosystem. Research Projects: Includes AI management frameworks, human-swarm teaming performance, and ethical AI in healthcare. Supervision: Currently mentors 10 PhD students in Computer Science and related fields. His research interests emphasize ethical AI deployment, scalable AI systems, and collaborative human-AI decision-making. Notable achievements include the AAMAS Best Demonstration Award (2023 and 2025) for work on human-swarm interaction and contributions to XAI in medical decision support.
