Gilbert Gugler is an Associate Professor at the iPrint Institute of the University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Western Switzerland , where he also co-leads the Institute of Energy . His career spans material science, industrial coating technologies, and innovative manufacturing processes. 1992: Diploma in Material Science from ETH Zurich 1992-1998: Worked at Vilab on chemical/physical vapor deposition for space applications 1998 onwards: Led production technology at Ilford, later heading coating R&D at Wifag-Polytype Technology Center until 2016 2016-present: iPrint Institute leadership roles His research focuses on inkjet printing for industrial applications, including direct-to-shape printing with robots, mechanochromic materials , and dielectric sensor development . He explores multi-material deposition , functional surface engineering , and cold plasma technology through interdisciplinary collaborations with Polytype AG, Mabi Robotics, and oenology experts. Recent publications highlight trends in gradient material fabrication using piezoelectric inkjet systems , 3D surface printing accuracy, and smart flooring applications for healthcare. His 15 most recent articles (2019-2024) cover technical advancements in microplasma arrays , UV lacquer systems , and industrial coating processes . Project leadership spans Swiss Innosuisse grants (e.g., 1.2M CHF for robotic DTS printing) to cross-disciplinary initiatives with wine researchers. He coordinates multi-institution teams including staff from HEIA-FR , HESSO-Vs , and industry partners.
