Patrícia Melo is an Associate Professor at ISEG - Lisbon School of Economics and Management, University of Lisbon. She holds an honorary position as Research Associate at the James Hutton Institute (JHI) and previously worked as a senior researcher there (2013–2017) and as a Research Associate at Imperial College London's Centre for Transport Studies (2010–2013). She obtained her PhD in Economics from Imperial College London (2010), MSc in Transport (2006), and BSc in Economics from ISEG (2003). Her research focuses on urban and regional economics, transport economics, and sustainable mobility. Key areas include transport investment impacts on agglomeration economies, spatial disparities in regional development, and the interplay between urban spatial structure and travel demand. She has extensively studied motorway networks' effects on urban growth, rural-urban linkages, and the economic consequences of transport infrastructure. Her publications analyze topics like motorways' role in Portugal's economic landscape, the sustainability transitions in urban mobility post-COVID-19, and the links between transport accessibility and rural population dynamics. She has contributed to policy evaluation frameworks for transport investments, including high-speed rail corridors and metro demand elasticity studies. Patrícia has supervised numerous master’s theses on urban sustainability, transport cost distribution, and well-being economies. She coordinates courses in urban economics, policy evaluation, and data analysis for economics and business at ISEG. Her work bridges theoretical economic analysis with applied policy research, emphasizing evidence-based decision-making in transport and urban planning. Professional affiliations include research units at Imperial College London (2008–2013) and prior experience at Lisbon Airport (2003–2005). She is affiliated with interdisciplinary labs like Data Lab and Futures Lab at ISEG, focusing on innovative solutions for socio-economic challenges.
