Ken K.-C. Yeung is an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Western University, where he also serves as Assistant Dean (Academic) for the Faculty of Science. His research laboratory focuses on advanced mass spectrometry techniques, particularly MALDI-MS imaging, to study neurochemical distributions in brain tissues and their implications in neurodegenerative disorders and drug responses. Dr. Yeung maintains active collaborations with the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry and Agriculture and Agri-Foods Canada. Education: B.Sc. and Ph.D. from the University of Calgary; NSERC Postdoctoral Fellow at Stanford University and University of Alberta. Research Focus: Development of novel MALDI-MS methodologies for spatial mapping of lipids, neurotransmitters, and metabolites in neurological tissues Investigating cannabinoid-induced neurochemical changes and their relationship to cognitive dysfunction Collaborative projects on mycotoxin detection in agricultural systems and biomass conversion for sustainable materials Publication Trends: Dr. Yeung's recent work (2017-2024) demonstrates strong emphasis on neurochemical imaging advancements, cannabinoid neuropharmacology, and environmental applications of mass spectrometry. His team consistently develops innovative analytical approaches for complex biological and environmental matrices. Student Advising: Dr. Yeung mentors a large cohort of graduate and undergraduate researchers. His laboratory has trained over 50 graduate students and 40+ undergraduate thesis students since 2001, with current projects spanning analytical method development, neurochemistry, and environmental analysis. Laboratories & Facilities: The Yeung Lab operates within the Siebens-Drake Research Institute (Room G31) and manages Western University's MALDI Mass Spectrometry Facility, supporting campus-wide research in biomolecular analysis.
