Georgios Liakopoulos is an Associate Professor of Plant Stress Physiology at the Faculty of Crop Science, Agricultural University of Athens (AUA) . He is affiliated with the Plant Physiology and Morphology Laboratory located in the Hassiotis building. His research focuses on photosynthesis under stress conditions , photoprotection mechanisms , carbon-calcium inclusions , and plant responses to abiotic stresses such as water deprivation and salinity. He teaches courses including Plant Stress Physiology , Functional Plant Anatomy , and Applied Plant Physiology . His work integrates plant morphological adaptations with physiological performance , particularly in Mediterranean species. Recent studies explore green roof ecosystems , vertical farming , and light utilization efficiency . Notable publications include investigations into calcium oxalate crystals' roles in photosynthesis and the optimization of hydroponic systems under artificial lighting. Dr. Liakopoulos engages in interdisciplinary projects, such as socio-ecological dynamics of Lake Volvi and historical landscape evolution . His applied research addresses urban agriculture challenges and sustainable crop management , with a focus on enhancing water use efficiency and CO2 sequestration in plant systems.
