Professor Andy Hogg is a leading academic in climate and ocean science, serving as Director of Australia's Climate Simulator (ACCESS-NRI), part of the National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy (NCRIS). He is affiliated with the Research School of Earth Sciences (RSES) at ANU and actively contributes to the COSIMA consortium and the ARC Centre of Excellence for Weather of the 21st Century. His research focuses on Southern Ocean dynamics, ocean modeling, and climate prediction, with emphasis on eddies, energy/mixing processes, and model development. His work spans high-resolution ocean modeling (e.g., ACCESS-OM2), understanding Antarctic Bottom Water transport, and the role of eddies in climate systems. Recent publications highlight advancements in machine learning applications for ocean circulation analysis and climate intervention studies. He collaborates globally, contributing to initiatives like the Ocean Model Intercomparison Project (OMIP) and Mediterranean paleoceanography studies. Key projects include improving climate models' resolution to capture eddies and studying wind-driven ocean circulation responses to climate change. His research often integrates theoretical, computational, and observational approaches to address critical climate science challenges.
