Sudharman K. Jayaweera is a Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of New Mexico , where he directs the Communications and Information Sciences Lab (CISL). His career spans roles as Associate Chair and Graduate Program Director (2014-2015), Faculty Fellow at Kirtland Air Force Research Lab (2009-2011), and NRC Senior Fellow at the Naval Postgraduate School (2013). He founded Bluecom Systems and Consulting, focusing on telecom/satcom, machine learning, and autonomous systems. Research Interests include cognitive radios, machine learning in wireless communications, satellite communications, and smart grid security. His work emphasizes statistical signal processing, information theory, and autonomous systems. Recent publications highlight reinforcement learning for spectrum sensing, wideband cognitive radio optimization, and smart grid stochastic control.
