Pierre-Marie Lledo is a leading neuroscientist at the Pasteur Institute in Paris, France. He serves as Head of the Perception and Memory Laboratory , Director of the CNRS Unit Genes, Synapses and Cognition , and Director of the Teaching Graduate Program in Neuroscience . A dual citizen of France and international neuroscience collaboration through his CoNCEPT project with McMaster University, Lledo maintains affiliations with prestigious institutions including CNRS (since 2004) and Academia Europaea (since 2006). His research focuses on adult neurogenesis and olfactory system plasticity , exploring how sensory experiences shape lifelong brain wiring. This work bridges molecular and systems neuroscience, with implications for developmental disorders , learning mechanisms , and mood regulation . Notably, Lledo's team investigates the microbiota-gut-brain axis , neuroimmune interactions , and amygdala circuitry in affective disorders. Recent publications highlight his groundbreaking work on depression models and neurodegenerative mechanisms , particularly exploring venous lymphatic brain clearance and vagal pathways in sepsis-related brain dysfunction. His 2025 Neuron study on olfactory hedonic biases in depression models demonstrates his continued leadership in affective neuroscience. Scientific distinctions : CNRS Medal for best Junior Scientist (1995) Prime d'Excellence Scientifique (CNRS, 2011) NRJ Award (French Academy of Science, 2005) Educational contributions include: Coordinating the intensive Pasteur Course on Development and Plasticity of the Nervous System Organizing international symposia on neurogenesis and brain plasticity Mentoring 22 Ph.D. and Master's students since 1993
