Dr. Cécile Gachet serves as a Junior Professor of Algebraic Geometry at the Faculty of Mathematics, Ruhr-University Bochum (RUB), appointed as of October 1, 2024. Her academic journey includes a PhD from Université Côte d'Azur (February 2023) under Prof. Andreas Höring and a postdoctoral fellowship at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin (2023–2024) in Prof. Gavril Farkas' group. She leads the Gachet Group and is an organizer of the Oberseminar “Complex and Algebraic Geometry” , a guest seminar focused on cutting-edge research topics. Dr. Gachet is also a Mercator Fellow of the SFB-TRR 195 (Symbolic Tools in Mathematics and their Applications) and collaborates with the Floer Center of Geometry (SFB/TRR 191). Research Interests : Her work centers on algebraic geometry, particularly birational geometry, positivity properties of tangent sheaves, and rational curves on Fano/Calabi-Yau varieties. Key topics include automorphism groups of complex algebraic varieties, divisor cones (nef, movable, big, effective) as positivity notions, the Morrison-Kawamata-Totaro cone conjecture, techniques from the Minimal Model Program, and connections between birational automorphism groups and positive cones. She explores theoretical frameworks like Hodge modules and Calabi-Yau foliations, intersecting with symplectic geometry and differential dynamics. Upcoming Activities : Dr. Gachet is organizing the Workshop on D-modules (March 5–7, 2025) and will teach Commutative Algebra in the next term. She is actively recruiting a PhD student for a 3-year position starting September 2025, emphasizing research in complex algebraic geometry with a focus on birational methods and positivity properties. The position is part of her collaborative efforts under the SFB-TRR 195. Grants & Collaborations : Principal Investigator in SFB-TRR 191 (Floer Center of Geometry) Mercator Fellowship via SFB-TRR 195 Outreach : Co-organizer of middle/high school math workshops (e.g., fractals presentation in Nice) Creator of flipbooks illustrating algebraic topology concepts Participant in Fête de la Science 2025 Labs/Teams : She heads the Gachet Group at RUB and contributes to the interdisciplinary Floer Center of Geometry , collaborating with groups like those led by Christian Lehn and Alberto Abbondandolo . Her office is located in Building IB, Room 89 (Floor 3) .
