Simon Parkin is a Senior Research and Teaching Fellow in the Human-Centred Security team at University College London's Department of Computer Science. His work bridges cybersecurity research, policy engagement, and practical applications in human behaviors, organizational security, and IoT vulnerabilities. He earned his PhD from Newcastle University in 2007, followed by roles in the Trust Economics project and HP Enterprise Security Services before joining UCL. Dr. Parkin's research spans Human-Centred Security, Usable Security and Privacy, and Security Economics, with recent focus on home user behaviors, organizational security interventions, IoT-facilitated tech-abuse, and charity cybersecurity. His publications (2018-2019) reveal strong emphasis on real-world usability challenges and vulnerable populations. His 2018-2019 publications demonstrate cross-cutting themes in authentication usability, IoT security for abuse survivors, and security metaphors, with significant policy impact through UK Parliament engagements. Scientific recognition includes: Best Paper Award at STAST 2019 Best Paper Award at eCrime 2019 He supervises Master's dissertations in human-centred security and has led undergraduate projects. Current grants include: Cyber Readiness for Boards (CRfB) (2019-present) as Co-Investigator Gender and IoT (2018-present) as Co-PI Investigating Data Security Practices for Small Charities (2018-2019) as PI He co-chairs the Cyber Fraud Resilience sub-committee for UK Charities Against Fraud and contributes to UCL's ethics committees within the Human-Centred Security team.
