Dr. Jeffery Thomas serves as a Teaching Professor in the Department of Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering at Missouri University of Science and Technology since 2021, with concurrent appointment as Adjunct Professor in Missouri State University's Cooperative Engineering Program since 2014. His 25+ year academic career at Missouri S&T progressed from Lecturer (1996-2009) through Assistant Teaching Professor (2009-2013) to Associate Teaching Professor (2013-2021). His educational credentials include: Ph.D. in Engineering Mechanics, Missouri University of Science and Technology (2009) M.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Missouri University of Science and Technology (1996) B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Missouri University of Science and Technology (1995) Dr. Thomas's research bridges Engineering Education innovation with applied mechanics. His work focuses on inverted classroom models and integrated learning systems for mechanics of materials, while exploring Mechanical Characterization of biological systems and structural materials. His Engineering Mechanics expertise spans biomechanics (helical force flow in tissues), structural failure analysis, and historic structure retrofitting. Publication analysis reveals consistent focus on engineering pedagogy (12 of 15 recent articles), particularly textbook development and active learning methodologies, complemented by structural engineering applications in concrete rehabilitation and historic preservation. His teaching excellence is recognized through multiple awards: Joseph H. Senne Jr. Faculty Teaching Award (2022) Dean's Educator Award (2020) Three-time Missouri S&T Faculty Achievement Award recipient Missouri State University Faculty Excellence in Teaching (2018) Dr. Thomas teaches core engineering courses including Statics, Dynamics, Mechanics of Materials, and Structural Design across multiple materials systems. His educational approach integrates artistic perspectives from music composition and performance, having recorded three albums as percussionist in a southern-rock band.
