Univ.-Prof. Dr. Franz Kolland is a leading sociologist and aging researcher at Karl Landsteiner Private University for Health Sciences, where he heads the Competence Center for Gerontology and Health Research . Previously, he served as scientific director of the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Social Gerontology and Life Course Research (2000-2005) and held academic positions at the University of Vienna since 1997. Academic education: Doctorate in Sociology (1985), Mag.phil in Sociology (1979) Key roles: Program director (2012-2019), editorial board member (2011-), advisory roles (2007-) His research focuses on gerontology, aging societies, social determinants of health, and digital education for seniors. Recent work includes analyzing AI-supported health technologies for older adults and co-creating person-centered integrated care ecosystems. Selected scientific awards : Austrian State Prize for Adult Education (2010) Austrian Cross of Honour for Science and Art (2016) Grand Decoration of Honour in Gold for Lower Austria (2019) Current projects include CLARA (centenarian studies), BUILD (care ecosystems), and Care4Caregivers (2023-2025). He holds leadership roles in academic commissions and serves as editor for multiple gerontological journals.
