Dr. Salisa Westrick serves as a Sterling Professor and Department Head in the Health Outcomes Research and Policy unit at Auburn University's Harrison College of Pharmacy. With extensive expertise in implementation science and health outcomes research, she leads significant initiatives focused on improving healthcare quality and patient outcomes through evidence-based innovations in community pharmacy settings. Her work spans from adoption to sustainability of healthcare innovations, with a strong focus on pharmacy-based immunization services and improving access to care for Medicare beneficiaries with limited income. She applies organizational theories and implementation science principles to study how healthcare innovations are adopted, implemented, and evaluated across various healthcare settings. Her research has evolved from examining immunization services to addressing broader healthcare challenges including naloxone dispensing, biometric screening, and medication therapy management. Her current research portfolio includes a CDC-funded project enhancing immunization practice standards among independently owned community pharmacies (2023-2028), and a long-running project promoting access to community resources for Medicare beneficiaries (2015-present) funded by the Alabama Department of Senior Services. She also leads the Alabama Pharmacy Cares initiative (www.alpharmacycares.org), which creates referral networks between community pharmacies and state-wide Aging and Disability Resource Centers. She has advised numerous graduate students through their PhD and MS programs, with many now contributing significantly to the field of pharmacy practice and health outcomes research.
