Univ.-Prof. Dr. Ronald Maier is a full Professor of Business Informatics specializing in Information and Knowledge Management at the University of Innsbruck's Faculty of Economics and Statistics. He also serves as Vice Rector for Digitalization and Knowledge Transfer at the University of Vienna. With over 25 years of academic experience, Professor Maier leads research in knowledge management systems, business process management, and digital transformation. Professor Maier earned his doctorate from WHU-Otto Beisheim School of Management in Koblenz, Germany, in 1996 with a dissertation on "Quality of Data Models." He completed his habilitation at the University of Regensburg in 2001 with the thesis "Knowledge Management Systems: Information and Communication Technologies for Knowledge Management." Prior to joining the University of Innsbruck in 2007, he held academic positions at Martin-Luther-University Halle-Wittenberg, University of Regensburg, WHU-Otto Beisheim School of Management, and Johannes Kepler University Linz. Professor Maier's research focuses on the intersection of information systems and knowledge management, with particular expertise in knowledge maturation processes, collaboration engineering, digital change, and knowledge protection in networked organizations. His work bridges theoretical frameworks with practical applications in workplace learning, idea convergence, and organizational knowledge creation. Recent research explores human-AI collaboration, digital nudges for decision making, and the impact of technology on informal learning practices across various sectors including healthcare and manufacturing. Professor Maier's publication record demonstrates a consistent trajectory from foundational work on knowledge management systems to contemporary research on digital transformation and AI-enabled collaboration.
