Prof. Michele Amoretti is an Associate Professor at the Department of Engineering and Architecture of the University of Parma, Italy, since December 2018. He holds a PhD in Information Technology from the same university (2006) and was a research fellow there from 2007 to 2015. He directs the Quantum Software Laboratory under the Department of Information Engineering and participates in the University's Scientific Computing Working Group. A Senior Member of IEEE and ACM member, he is fluent in Italian, English, and French. His academic journey began with a Degree in Electronic Engineering from the University of Parma (2002), followed by a PhD in Information Technology (2006). He gained international experience as a Visiting Researcher at CNRS LIG Lab in Grenoble (2013), collaborating on IPv6-based wireless sensor networks. Amoretti's research spans parallel and distributed systems, with current emphasis on Quantum Computing, High Performance Computing, and IoT. His 140+ publications reveal a pronounced shift toward quantum algorithms, distributed quantum infrastructure, and quantum machine learning, alongside IoT applications in precision agriculture. This evolution aligns with his leadership in European quantum initiatives. Honors include IEEE Senior Membership and ACM affiliation. He serves on the Editorial Board of IEEE Transactions on Quantum Engineering and reviews for major journals. His project leadership includes Horizon Europe's Quantum Internet Alliance and PNRR-funded quantum machine learning initiatives. As Principal Investigator for 20+ projects since 2002, he has secured funding from ESA, EU, and regional bodies. Current roles include Node Coordinator for UNIPR in CINI HPC-KTT National Laboratory and Co-coordinator of its Quantum Computing Focus Group. He leads the Quantum Software Laboratory, driving quantum software development and simulation capabilities. His work bridges theoretical quantum computing with practical HPC and IoT implementations, positioning him at the forefront of Europe's quantum technology ecosystem.
