Paul Buta is an Assistant Professor in the School of Business & Social Sciences at Colby-Sawyer College. He joined the faculty in 2023 after over 30 years as an entrepreneur, with extensive experience in starting, growing, and selling small businesses. His expertise spans artificial intelligence, natural language processing, data mining, and strategic marketing. Paul holds an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business (1993), an M.S. in Artificial Intelligence from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (1986), and a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the same institution (1984). His research and publications focus on balancing corporate needs with personal privacy, including works like Privacy Panic (2009) and articles on privacy-safe marketing strategies. Prior to Colby-Sawyer, he taught at Boston University since 2008 and has spoken at events such as the International Association of Privacy Professionals and the Data & Marketing Association. Paul is a Certified Privacy Professional (CPP). Paul’s academic contributions bridge AI, business strategy, and ethical data practices. His work highlights interdisciplinary approaches to innovation, stakeholder management, and startup operations. He has collaborated with companies like Optas, JogNog, and WEGO Health, applying technical expertise to real-world business challenges.
