Wan-Chen Lee is an Assistant Professor at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee's School of Information Studies. She holds a PhD and multiple master's degrees from the University of Washington Information School. Her research focuses on knowledge organization in cultural contexts, metadata design for multimedia resources, and ethical AI in librarianship. Dr. Lee investigates inclusive data practices, including metadata for video games, anime, and fiction, emphasizing cultural stewardship and global-local tensions. Education: PhD in Information Studies, University of Washington Master of Science in Information Science, University of Washington Master of Library and Information Science, University of Washington Bachelor of Arts in Library and Information Science, National Taiwan University Research Interests: Her work addresses challenges in cataloging, classification theory, and metadata standards across cultures. Recent projects include AI ethics in libraries, mood metadata for fiction using emojis, and genre analysis of anime. Dr. Lee’s research has been funded by the American Library Association and the Northwestern Mutual Data Science Institute.
