Federico Rafael García Galvan is a Lecturer in the Department of Mechanical, Chemical and Industrial Design Engineering at the Polytechnic University of Madrid. He holds a PhD in Materials Science and Engineering from Carlos III University of Madrid (2018), awarded cum laude with international mention, and received the UC3M extraordinary PhD award in 2019. His doctoral training included research positions at UC3M (2011-2013), a pre-doctoral fellowship at CENIM (2014-2017), and project-based contracts at CENIM (2018-2019), complemented by international research stays at the University of Manchester (2013) and Nottingham Trent University (2016). His research program centers on electrochemistry of materials, specifically developing self-repairing sol-gel coatings for metal protection, multifunctional energy storage materials (supercapacitors/lithium-ion batteries), corrosion mechanisms in light alloys (Mg/Al/Ti), and advanced characterization using impedance spectroscopy, scanning Kelvin probe, and electrochemical microscopy techniques. This work bridges materials science, chemical engineering, and surface engineering with strong industrial applications. He has earned the UC3M PhD award (2019) and ANECA accreditation (2020), with 16 total publications (11 articles, 5 book chapters) including 13 Web of Science-indexed works (9 in Q1 journals). Dr. García Galvan has mentored graduate students from Simón Bolivar University (Venezuela) and CINVESTAV (Mexico), participated in 6 national R+D+i projects plus 1 internal university project, and currently contributes as an external member to Ministry of Science project PID2019-104717RB-I00. He has presented 34 conference contributions (10 national, 24 international). He was a member of the 'Análisis y Caracterización Óptica de Materiales' research group until July 2025, focusing on optical characterization methodologies for advanced materials development.
