Dr Rebecca Rennell is an Early Career Researcher and archaeology lecturer at the UHI Archaeology Institute, part of the University of the Highlands and Islands. Since 2015, she has contributed to teaching and research, developing innovative virtual field trips and digital modules for undergraduate and postgraduate programs. Her teaching includes postgraduate modules like Digital Analysis and undergraduate courses such as Prehistory of the Highlands and Islands. Her research focuses on digital methods (GIS, virtual reality) for archaeological analysis and presentation, alongside landscape archaeology and Atlantic Scottish prehistory. She supervises dissertations on digital humanities and Highland prehistory. Based at Cnoc Soilleir in Uist since 2007, Becky’s career began with a UCL degree and PhD on digital methods and Outer Hebrides settlement patterns. She manages the Uist Virtual Archaeology Project (funded by Natural and Cultural Heritage Fund) and coordinates Scotland’s Island Research Framework for Archaeology (SIRFA), supported by Historic Environment Scotland. Becky collaborates with communities on excavations and heritage projects, such as Sloc Sabahaidh and Loch Paible in North Uist, and has led excavations at The Cairns in Orkney. She co-founded Uist Archaeology and has extensive experience in commercial archaeology, surveys, and public engagement.
