Mary Thomas, MD, MPH is a Clinical Fellow in Medical Oncology and Hematology at Yale School of Medicine. She holds dual appointments in Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology/Hematology, with expertise in geriatric care communication, primary care career development, and thromboembolic disease research. Dr. Thomas completed her MD at University of Tennessee Health Science Center, Internal Medicine Residency at Indiana University School of Medicine (2020), and MPH in Social and Behavioral Sciences at Richard M Fairbanks School of Public Health. She is board-certified in Internal Medicine (ABIM, 2023).
Her research focuses on enhancing communication between providers and geriatric patients regarding fall risk prevention, optimizing primary care career exposure models for trainees, and investigating patient experiences with venous thromboembolism diagnoses. She has published in peer-reviewed journals including South Medical Journal, Journal of General Internal Medicine, and Res Pract Thromb Haemost.
Dr. Thomas actively contributes to academic review processes as a reviewer for Annals of Internal Medicine, Southern Medical Journal, and Journal of General Internal Medicine. She has presented at Society of General Internal Medicine conferences on topics like dementia care and guardianship alternatives for individuals with intellectual disabilities.
