Gilles ARNAUD-FASSETTA is Professor of Geography specializing in Hydrogeomorphology & Geoarchaeology at Paris Cité University, where he is affiliated with the PRODIG Laboratory (UMR 8586). His work examines the complex interactions between river systems, environmental changes, and human societies across diverse spatial and temporal scales. Dr. Arnaud-Fassetta earned his PhD in Geography (Holocene fluvial dynamics in the Rhône delta) from the University of Provence (Aix-Marseille 1) in 1998, followed by his Professorial thesis [HDR] in geography from the University of Paris-Diderot in 2007. His research spans France (North and South), Europe (Italy, Portugal, Romania, Switzerland), and global sites (Japan, Nepal, Pakistan, Senegal, Tunisia). His primary research interests include: Hydrogeomorphology of river systems (watercourses, deltas, lagoons) Watershed dynamics and environmental changes Paleoenvironmental reconstruction and geoarchaeology Hydrological risk assessment and management River restoration and sustainable watershed management Dr. Arnaud-Fassetta has supervised numerous PhD students whose research covers diverse topics from fluvial dynamics to flood risk management across various geographical contexts. His publications appear in high-impact journals including Geomorphology, Journal of Hydrology, and Science of the Total Environment. He actively contributes to the PRODIG research center's strategic direction, particularly in the 'Societies facing environmental changes, natural and health risks' axis for the 2025-2029 research period. His work bridges fundamental research on river processes with practical applications for flood risk management and sustainable water resource planning.
