Jen Haensel is a PhD Student and Visiting Doctoral Researcher in the Department of Psychological Sciences at Birkbeck, University of London. Her work focuses on cultural differences in face perception development using advanced eye tracking techniques. She has held research roles at institutions including Kyoto University and the University of Sheffield. PhD Psychology (2015–present), Birkbeck MSc Educational Neuroscience (Distinction, 2013–2015), UCL/Birkbeck MSc Cognitive and Computational Neuroscience (Distinction, 2011–2012), University of Sheffield BSc Mathematics & Psychology (2007–2011), University of Glasgow Her research integrates screen-based and head-mounted eye tracking to study cross-cultural differences in face scanning patterns among infants and adults from Japan and the UK. She also develops semi-automated methods for analyzing eye-tracking data. Notable contributions include presenting at international conferences like the International Congress of Infant Studies and Vision Sciences Society. Awards include the SR Research Poster Award (2017) and a Psychology Merit Certificate (2010). She has received funding from the Wellcome Trust and MRC. Teaching roles include demonstrating for research methods courses at Birkbeck since 2016.
