Professor Jeremy Prichard is a leading academic and Director of the Tasmania Law Reform Institute at the University of Tasmania. He holds a PhD (2004) and dual BA/LLB (1997) from the University of Tasmania, alongside a BA (Hons) in Neuroscience (1995). His career spans roles in criminology, policy, and multidisciplinary research, focusing on cybercrime prevention, child exploitation, and substance abuse monitoring. Research Interests: His work addresses cyber-enabled crimes, child sexual abuse material (CSAM) prevention, wastewater-based epidemiology for drug monitoring, and legal reform. He collaborates with global agencies like the Australian Institute of Criminology and the Internet Watch Foundation, pioneering online warning systems and chatbot interventions to reduce harmful behaviors. Grants & Collaborations: Over 30 funded projects include $1.03M for the CSAM Deterrence Centre (Jesuit Social Services), $197K for youth justice system evaluations, and ARC grants for wastewater analysis and CSAM prevention. His work informs policies on cyber-safety, prison drug use, and Tasmania’s legal frameworks. Teaching & Supervision: Teaches Criminal Law and Ethics, co-designed Forensic Psychology courses. Supervised six completed PhDs on topics like CSAM perceptions, cyberstalking prosecution, and wastewater drug tracking. Current projects include a CSAM monitoring framework and chatbot development for adolescents.
