Noémi Gonda is a Researcher and Associate Professor (Docent) at the Department of Urban and Rural Development, Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU), where she also serves as the SLU Global Network Coordinator for the Faculty of Natural Resources and Agricultural Sciences. Her work bridges feminist and decolonial perspectives with urgent contemporary challenges, particularly the intersection of authoritarianism and energy transitions. Education: PhD from Central European University (2016) Master of Science in Tropical Agriculture and Development from l'Institut Agro Montpellier Engineer in Tropical Agriculture from l'Institut Agro Montpellier Agricultural Engineer from Bordeaux Sciences Agro (formerly ENITAB) Research Interests: Gonda's research is driven by feminist and decolonial perspectives on environmental change and the political ecologies of the far-right. She focuses on two critical challenges: the rise of far-right authoritarianism and the need for a just energy transition. Her work explores how radical social and environmental transformations towards justice can emerge, emphasizing societal resilience and democratic renewal for sustainable and equitable futures. She is particularly interested in the role of scholar-activists in supporting transformative change. Research Trends: Her recent publications reveal a strong focus on energy justice in authoritarian contexts, the interplay between land grabbing and authoritarian populism, and the critical examination of resilience and conflict in climate adaptation. She employs feminist political ecology to unpack power dynamics, especially in relation to gender and intersectionality, and advocates for democratic participation in environmental governance. Scientific Awards: Best docent lecturer of the year 2023/2024 at SLU Central European University’s PhD write-up grant (2015-2016) CEU’s Academic Achievement Awards (2015, 2013) CEU’s Full Doctoral Fellowship (2012-2015) French Government’s Excellency Scholarship (1996-1997) Advising and Grants: Gonda has supervised numerous PhD and Master's students, including current co-supervision of Deeksha Sharma (PhD) and past supervision of students from SLU, Uppsala University, and international institutions. She leads the JUSTPOWER project (funded by Formas) on democracy and justice in energy transitions, and has been PI/Co-PI on projects including "Exploring Governance Regimes through Agricultural Land Grabbing Dynamics" (Formas) and "Governing Climate Resilient Futures" (VR). Her research is supported by major Swedish and international grants.
