Prof. Nanna Verhoeff is a Professor of Screen Cultures & Society at Utrecht University's Department of Media and Culture Studies, leading both the department and the interdisciplinary [urban interfaces] research group. She holds affiliations with the Humanities Institute for Cultural Inquiry and Media and Performance Studies units within the Faculty of Humanities. Her research focuses on emerging screen media, urban interfaces, and performative technologies, emphasizing interdisciplinary collaboration between arts, humanities, and sciences. Her expertise spans urban media art, digital culture, and creative methodologies for sustainability. Key projects include the Open Cities Platform (Institutions for Open Societies initiative) and Creative Urban Methods (Pathways to Sustainability). She co-founded the Creative Humanities Academy to bridge academic and professional arts sectors, offering continuing education programs like LinC A. Notable collaborations include the Media Architecture Biennale 2020 and the Transmission in Motion platform. Research themes include human-centered AI, infrastructural thinking, and datafication critique. Her work employs concept-driven methodologies to analyze situated arts, media installations, and urban interventions. Recent publications explore algorithmic culture, data visualization, and pandemic-era urban design. She actively contributes to editorial boards for journals like Digital Culture & Society and book series on media theory. Prof. Verhoeff's teaching spans BA, MA, and RMA programs in Media Studies, including courses on media performance, urban interfaces, and critical concepts in digital humanities.
