Associate Professor Andrew Brooks is an environmental scientist at Griffith University, affiliated with the School of Environment and Science and the Department of Environment and Marine. He holds roles in the Precision Erosion and Sediment Management (PrESM) Research Group and the Griffith Centre for Coastal Management. Brooks earned his BSc (1993), BSc Honours (1994), and PhD (2000) from Macquarie University. His research focuses on fluvial geomorphology, gully erosion dynamics, and catchment management, particularly in Great Barrier Reef catchments. Key interests include sediment connectivity, water quality improvement, and restoration strategies. He has led over 64 funded research projects, including ARC grants and industry partnerships, totaling millions in funding. Brooks' work emphasizes practical solutions for reducing sediment pollution and rehabilitating degraded landscapes. His recent studies highlight innovative gully mapping techniques, prioritization frameworks for remediation, and the effectiveness of restoration efforts. His Eureka Prize win (2017) recognizes contributions to environmental research.
