Gustavo Alberto Marrero Díaz is a Full Professor of Economic Analysis at the University of La Laguna since 2018 and Director of the Research Center on Social Inequality and Governance (CEDESOG). He holds a PhD in Economics from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (2000), focusing on public capital and growth models. His research spans economic growth, income inequality, energy economics, and climate change. He has held academic roles at Universidad Complutense de Madrid and Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona, and served as a World Bank consultant (2012). He leads the research groups DECENT (Development, Inequality, and Environment) and ETSDReg (Transport Economics and Regional Development), associated with the IUDR institute. His work integrates dynamic general equilibrium models, energy efficiency, inequality of opportunity, and health economics. Over 40 peer-reviewed articles since 2013 reflect his contributions to these fields, with recent focus on renewable energy impacts, pandemic-era educational equity, and malaria policy in Africa. Marrero has coordinated over 15 research projects funded by the Spanish Ministry, EU programs (Horizon Europe, Interreg), and regional entities. His work emphasizes policy-relevant insights, such as the interplay between inequality and growth, and energy governance in isolated systems like the Canary Islands.
