Dr. Helmut Sedding is a Senior Lecturer at the ZHAW School of Engineering, Zurich University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW), specializing in Smart Services and Operations. His research focuses on combinatorial optimization algorithms, particularly in scheduling, with an emphasis on time-dependent processing times and production planning efficiency. He has led numerous projects, including 'Customizable Injection Molded Products and Services with Interconnected Production Planning' and 'Warehouse Operations', and has contributed to optimizing freight configurations for aircraft. Sedding is actively involved in academic networks like the Swiss Operations Research Society and has organized events such as the 4th International Workshop on Dynamic Scheduling Problems (IWDSP 2023). His awards include the IISE Transactions Award 2021 (best journal paper in production and logistics) and the IWA Prize 2016 for contributions to scheduling research. Sedding’s work bridges theoretical optimization and industrial applications, addressing challenges in manufacturing and logistics through algorithmic advancements. Key Projects: Adaptive Production Planning Systems, Self-Regulated Corrective Actions in GFRP Production, and Systematization of Production Processes for Industrial SMEs. Grants and Funding: Extensive project leadership roles indicate sustained institutional and industrial support for his research. Labs/Teams: Core contributor to ZHAW’s Industry 4.0 initiatives and dynamic scheduling workshops.
