Prof. Tania Prill is a renowned Professor of Typography at the University of the Arts Bremen (HfK), where she leads the Archive of Independent Publishing (AIP). She holds a dual academic and professional background, having taught globally since 1997. Previously, she was Professor of Communication Design at the HfG Karlsruhe (2004–2010) and co-founded the design studio Prill Vieceli Cremers (2001–2018). Her research focuses on editorial design, self-publishing, and the historical role of typography in social movements. She curates the AIP, an archive of underground publications from 1965–1975, and has authored/co-authored seminal works like Under the Radar and Money . Her awards include the Tokyo Type Directors Club Grand Prix and multiple Most Beautiful Swiss Books honors. Education: Studied Visual Communication at HfK Bremen and ZHdK Zurich; Executive Master in Design | Art + Innovation at HGK Basel. Research emphasizes design’s political and cultural dimensions, including projects like Wir publizieren (exploring independent publishing networks) and managing the estate of typographer Hans-Rudolf Lutz. Her teaching includes the School of Visual Combinations master’s program and courses on typography and editorial design.
