Àngel Lozano is a Professor at Universitat Pompeu Fabra (Barcelona), head of the Wireless & Secure Communications Group, and holder of the Fractus-UPF Chair on 6G and Tech Transfer. He is an ICREA Academia awardee and serves as Scientific Director of the Maria de Maeztu Unit of Excellence in Information and Communication Technologies. Previously, he worked at Bell Labs (Holmdel, USA, 1999–2008) and held an Adjunct Associate Professor position at Columbia University (2005–2008). He earned his Ph.D. in 1998 from Stanford University. His research focuses on wireless communications, MIMO systems, 5G/6G networks, information theory, and signal processing. He co-authored the influential textbook Foundations of MIMO Communication (2018) with Robert W. Heath Jr., emphasizing practical and theoretical aspects of multiantenna communication. His work bridges academic research with industry applications, particularly in tech transfer and 6G development. Lozano is an IEEE Fellow and Distinguished Lecturer, reflecting his contributions to the field. His articles analyze historical technological misjudgments (e.g., radio waves dismissed as impractical, SMS's accidental success) and current trends in wireless networks. He actively advises pre- and postdoctoral candidates and emphasizes the importance of securing an academic advisor for research in communication theory and wireless systems.
