Professor Yongqing Fu is a faculty member in the Faculty of Engineering and Environment at Northumbria University, specializing in Mathematics, Physics and Electrical Engineering. His research focuses on smart materials, thin film technologies, and microsystem applications. Research interests include: Development of piezoelectric films/coatings for acoustic wave devices and MEMS sensors Nanomaterials for energy applications including solar cells and batteries Smart coatings for precision engineering and icephobic applications Acoustofluidics and lab-on-chip technologies for biomedical applications His publications demonstrate consistent focus on materials innovation, with recent works exploring surface acoustic wave applications in sensing, drug delivery, and environmental mitigation. The research consistently integrates materials science principles with practical engineering solutions. Awards and honors include: Lilly Young Investigator Fellow in Bipolar Disorders (2007) NSLHD Exceptional People Nominee (2024) Professor Fu leads the Special Interest Group on Acoustofluidics within the EPSRC-funded UK Fluids Network and supervises doctoral students in materials engineering disciplines.
