Tyrone Cannon is the Clark L. Hull Professor of Psychology and Professor of Psychiatry at Yale University. He earned his Ph.D. from the University of Southern California in 1990 and has established himself as a leading researcher in psychosis and severe mental illness. His work spans over three decades with publications dating from 1988 to the present. Dr. Cannon directs the Clinical Neuroscience Laboratory at Yale, where his team investigates the interplay between psychological phenomena and neurobiological mechanisms in mental illness, particularly schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. His research focuses on understanding the mechanisms underlying psychosis emergence during adolescence and developing effective intervention and prevention strategies. The laboratory employs structural, functional, metabolic, and neurochemical brain imaging, neurocognitive assessment, and quantitative and molecular genetics in twin studies, longitudinal developmental studies, birth cohort studies, and randomized controlled trials. Dr. Cannon's recent work (2023-2025) demonstrates remarkable breadth and depth, with over 100 publications examining psychosis risk prediction, neuroanatomical correlates, suicidality in at-risk populations, social determinants of psychosis, and biomarker development. His research shows consistent focus on identifying individuals at highest risk and understanding the mechanisms driving progression to psychosis. Clark L.
