Dale Whittington is a Professor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, holding joint appointments in the Department of Environmental Sciences and Engineering and the Department of City and Regional Planning within the Gillings School of Global Public Health. He is affiliated with the Center for Urban and Regional Studies and the Water Institute. His work focuses on environmental policy, water and sanitation systems in developing countries, and transboundary water management, particularly in the Eastern Nile Basin. Dr. Whittington has collaborated with the World Bank and international agencies since 1986, conducting research in over 30 countries. His expertise includes vaccine policy analysis, environmental valuation techniques, and urban water tariff design. He co-authored Expert Advice for Policy Choice , a textbook on public policy analysis. His recent research emphasizes sustainable water solutions for growing Asian cities, Nile water management, and economic evaluations of vaccines for diseases like malaria and HIV/AIDS. He has advised governments on water governance, corruption prevention in water sectors, and climate resilience strategies. Key publications explore transboundary water conflicts, circular urban water systems, and vaccine cost-benefit analyses. His work bridges environmental economics, public health, and policy to address global challenges in resource allocation and equity.
