Dr. Aziz Ahmed is a Senior Lecturer in Structural Engineering at the University of Wollongong's School of Civil, Mining, Environmental and Architectural Engineering. He holds a PhD from the National University of Singapore (2013) and has held roles including Associate Research Fellow (2016-2021) and Lecturer (2021-2024) before his current position since 2025. His research focuses on sustainable infrastructure, structural optimization, recycled materials, and renewable energy systems. He has secured over 30 grants including ARC Industrial Transformation Research Hub funding and NSF-CSIRO collaborations. Education: BSc (Civil Engineering, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology, 2007), PhD (Structural Engineering, NUS, 2013), Postdoctoral Fellowship at NUS. Certifications: PMP (Project Management Institute). Research interests span structural steel optimization, 3D printing of sustainable materials, marine energy systems, and occupational safety technologies. He leads projects like the ReCreateIt NSF initiative transforming plastic waste via 3D printing and the Steel Innovation Hub. His work aligns with UN SDGs 3,7,9,11,13 addressing health, energy, industry, cities, and climate action. Teaching: Coordinates courses in construction management, engineering mechanics, and computer modeling. Supervises PhD/MPhil students on topics like recycled plastics in construction, cold-formed steel structures, and offshore wind turbine design. Actively applies AI and flipped classrooms in teaching. Service: Member of American Society of Civil Engineers, Engineers Australia. Serves on UOW's Early Career Academic Network and chairs Academic Integrity committees. Peer reviewer for 13 top-tier journals including Engineering Failure Analysis and Journal of Constructional Steel Research . Awards include Best Presentation at Steel Hub Symposium 2019 and recognition for contributions to teaching and learning. His lab develops wearable sensors for construction safety and AI-driven chatbots for knowledge sharing.
