Prof. Pao-Yu Oei is a full professor at Europa Universität Flensburg, directing the Industrial Engineering: Energy and Environmental Management program and leading the 30-member FossilExit research group. He is affiliated with TU Berlin and DIW Berlin as a guest researcher. His expertise spans energy economics, climate policy, and sustainable transitions, with a focus on coal phase-out, renewable integration, and socio-political challenges. He advises numerous international projects and chairs the Interdisciplinary Institute for Environmental, Social, and Human Sciences. Education: Ph.D. in Economics from TU Berlin Dipl.-Ing. in Industrial Engineering Research Interests: Prof. Oei’s work addresses global energy transitions, fossil fuel phase-outs, and equitable structural changes. His research combines techno-economic modeling with socio-political analysis, emphasizing gender aspects and global South collaboration. He leads initiatives like the TRAJECTS climate center and CoalTransitions, fostering international knowledge exchange. Grants & Projects: Projects include the German CoalExit commission analysis, South Africa’s energy transition studies, and Colombia’s renewable potential assessments. He contributes to policy advising for governments, including Schleswig-Holstein and municipal utilities.
