Björn Sandstede is the Alumni-Alumnae University Professor of Applied Mathematics at Brown University's Division of Applied Mathematics. His research focuses on applied dynamical systems, data science, computational biology, nonlinear waves, and pattern formation. He has held faculty positions at The Ohio State University and the University of Surrey before joining Brown in 2008. Key roles at Brown include Department Chair (nine years) and Director of the Data Science Initiative (two years). He has received prestigious awards such as the SIAM JD Crawford Prize, Royal Society Wolfson Research Merit Award, and teaching excellence awards from Brown.
