Dr. Peter Erdelyi is a Principal Academic (equivalent to Associate Professor) in the Department of Marketing, Strategy & Innovation at Bournemouth University Business School. He holds a PhD from the London School of Economics and Political Science (2015), an MBA from IESE Business School in Barcelona (1999), an MA from the State University of New York at Binghamton (1995), and a Teacher's Certificate from Constantine the Philosopher University in Nitra (1992). With extensive teaching experience across the USA, Taiwan, Slovakia, and the UK, he has served as Deputy Head of Department, Programme Leader for Master's programmes, and interim Head of Education & Professional Practice. His research centers on the social study of markets, innovation, and technology, employing Actor-Network Theory (ANT) to explore entrepreneurial valuation practices and market mechanisms. He draws on Schumpeter, Heidegger, and Latour to examine relationships between innovation, entrepreneurship, and the contemporary market economy. Key interests include value co-creation in SMEs, market devices, and technology's role in modernity, with strong emphasis on qualitative methodologies. Analysis of his recent publications reveals a consistent focus on entrepreneurial market formation through sociological lenses. His work bridges entrepreneurship theory with market sociology, highlighting actor-network dynamics in e-commerce emergence, Dragons' Den style contests as market devices, and SME innovation barriers. Recurring themes include relational capabilities, service qualification, and policy instruments for knowledge-based economies, demonstrating interdisciplinary rigor across economics, sociology, and technology studies. Best Paper Award (Advances in Tourism Marketing Conference, 2009) AECI Scholarship for postgraduate study in Spain (1998) Fulbright Scholarship for postgraduate study in the United States (1992) Dr. Erdelyi has successfully supervised three PhD students to completion—Isaac Ngugi (2011), Osikhuemhe Okwilagwe (2017), and Tim Ford (2018)—all now employed as university lecturers or researchers. While specific grants aren't detailed, his students secured fully-funded studentships and Vice-Chancellor's Scholarships, indicating effective research support acquisition. He actively serves as internal/external PhD examiner and journal reviewer for outlets including Journal of Small Business and Enterprise Development. Within Bournemouth University, he contributes to the Faculty Research Degree Committee, Academic Standards Committee, and Business School's Industry Advisory Board. His external roles include External Examiner for University College Cork and Nottingham Trent University, plus peer review for multiple academic journals. His work directly supports UN Sustainable Development Goals for Quality Education and Decent Work through entrepreneurial education initiatives and SME-focused research.
