Michele Limon is an Italian research scientist affiliated with the University of Pennsylvania , where he contributes to observational cosmology and instrumentation development. His career spans over 30 years, with significant roles at Princeton University (1996–2001), NASA Goddard Space Flight Center (2001–2008), and Columbia University (2008–). He specializes in cosmic microwave background (CMB) research and cryogenics, working on groundbreaking space missions like WMAP and balloon-based experiments such as EBEX. Education Physics, University of Milan Limón's research focuses on cosmology, particularly the study of the universe's origin through CMB polarization measurements. His work involves designing ground, balloon, and space-based instruments to advance cosmological models. He has contributed to the development of the Standard Model of Cosmology via the WMAP mission and is currently part of the Simons Observatory team, which aims to probe cosmic inflation and dark matter properties using telescopes in Chile's Atacama Desert. Scientific Awards 2012 Gruber Yale Cosmology Prize 2017 Breakthrough Prize in Fundamental Physics Limón has led instrumentation efforts for major cosmology projects, including NASA's WMAP (which mapped CMB anisotropies) and EBEX (a balloon-borne telescope for CMB polarization studies). His expertise in cryogenics and space-based systems underpins these experiments, advancing understanding of the universe's energy density and inflationary theories.
