Dr. Monica Rodriguez-Castro is an Associate Professor in the Department of Languages and Culture Studies at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte , where she has taught since 2011. She previously served as Assistant Professor at the University of Louisville (2007-2011). Her work focuses on translation pedagogy, corpus linguistics, and language equity initiatives. Ph.D. in Translation Studies (2011) - Kent State University M.A. in Spanish (2007) - University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee B.S. in Translation (2004) - Universidade de Vigo, Spain Her research explores translator satisfaction , machine translation , and community engagement with Latino populations. She pioneered empirical studies comparing in-house and freelance translators , and investigates “se” constructions in scientific discourse . Dr. Rodriguez-Castro has received multiple internal research grants at UNC Charlotte, including funding for machine translation studies. She co-authored the Spanish Film Club Grant initiative and received the Victor A. Olorunsola Endowed Research Award (2012). 2023: Faculty Research Grant (UNC Charlotte) 2019-2021: Scholarship of Teaching and Learning Grant (UNC Charlotte) 2012: Victor A. Olorunsola Award (University of Louisville) A dedicated academic leader, she served as Graduate Program Director (2020-2023) and chairs UNC Charlotte's FITSAC committee. She also mentors students in internships across legal , healthcare , and community settings .
