Domingo Garcia Senz is a Professor in the Department of Physics and Nuclear Engineering at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia, affiliated with the Barcelona School of Informatics. He leads research in the Grup d'Astronomia i Astrofísica (GAA) and is part of the CTE-CRAE research group focused on Space Science and Technologies. His research spans several key areas in astrophysics, with particular expertise in: White dwarf physics and evolution Supernova explosions and progenitors Neutron star systems Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) numerical methods Nuclear astrophysics and nucleosynthesis Compact object interactions in binary systems Over his extensive career since the late 1980s, Dr. Garcia Senz has developed sophisticated computational methods for modeling stellar explosions and compact object physics. His recent work focuses on improving numerical techniques for hydrodynamic simulations, studying nova systems, and investigating the physics of white dwarf explosions. He has made significant contributions to understanding the mechanisms behind Type Ia supernovae and the behavior of matter under extreme conditions. His research group has received funding from multiple competitive projects through national and European programs, including the Spanish National Research Plans and Horizon 2020. Dr. Garcia Senz has mentored numerous researchers who have gone on to contribute to the field of computational astrophysics, with several of his former students now established researchers in their own right.
