Dr. Sarah Klanderman is an Assistant Professor of Mathematics at Marian University, College of Arts and Sciences, specializing in algebraic topology and mathematics education. She earned her Ph.D. from Michigan State University, focusing on computational tools for topological coHochschild homology. Her work bridges pure mathematics with interdisciplinary applications, particularly in STEM education and undergraduate research. Education: Ph.D. in Mathematics, Michigan State University Research Interests: Her algebraic topology research emphasizes (co)Hochschild homology and algebraic K-theory, while her education work focuses on inclusive teaching, STEM retention for underrepresented groups, and integrating mathematics with other disciplines. She actively involves undergraduates in research projects connecting number sequences and graph theory. Publications & Grants: Key publications include work on coHochschild homology computations and educational strategies for proof-writing. She directs the HHMI ie3 Grant Program and co-leads the S-STEM Grant at Marian University, promoting undergraduate research and STEM accessibility. Service & Advocacy: Dr. Klanderman advocates for inclusive teaching practices and has published on combating gender bias and impostor syndrome in STEM. She co-authored a book on graphic novel applications in STEM education and collaborates on initiatives to improve mathematics placement efficacy for engineering students.
