Fabio Maria Montagnino is a Senior Research Fellow at The Cyprus Institute (CyI), specializing in renewable energy, sustainability, and innovation management. With a physics background from the University of Palermo and a fellowship in experimental biophysics from the Italian National Research Council, he transitioned to industrial R&D and internationalization roles. He founded and led Consorzio ARCA, an innovation hub promoting knowledge-based startups and EU collaboration, serving as a regional node for EEN and EIT Health networks. His work focuses on integrating creativity, entrepreneurship, and innovation for sustainable development, with over 30 EU-funded projects led or coordinated. He is a frequent speaker on innovation and sustainability, holds three patents, and advocates for holistic approaches to energy and environmental challenges. Research interests include renewable energy technologies (solar power, energy storage), circular economy models, smart communities, and policy frameworks for sustainable transitions. He emphasizes open innovation ecosystems, particularly in Mediterranean regions, and has contributed to infrastructures like Living Labs and incubators. His expertise spans technology scouting, knowledge transfer, and fostering international partnerships.
