Tamara Mikolič Južnič is an associate professor of translation studies at the Department of Translation Studies, Faculty of Arts, University of Ljubljana. She serves as head of the Chair of Translation Studies and deputy head of the department. Additionally, she is a member of the Senate of the Faculty of Arts and represents the department in the CIUTI association as the Erasmus+ internship coordinator. Dr. Mikolič Južnič teaches Italian language courses and conducts lectures and seminars on translation of professional and political texts, textual competences, and methods in translation research across all three levels of study programs. Her academic work spans both teaching and research in translation studies. Her research focuses on several key areas within translation studies: Translation studies methodology and theory Community interpreting and public service translation Contrastive grammar between Italian and Slovene Corpus linguistics applications in translation Literary translation history and practice Translator and interpreter training Dr. Mikolič Južnič's recent scholarly work demonstrates a strong engagement with contemporary challenges in translation, particularly examining multilingual landscapes, literary translation for minority languages, working conditions for translators, and the application of corpus linguistics to translation problems. Her research often takes a comparative approach between Slovene and Italian, reflecting her specialization in these language pairs. Among her notable scholarly contributions are monographs including "Nominalizacija: korpusni pristop h kontrastivnim in prevodoslovnim vprašanjem" (2017) and co-authored works like "Center and periphery: power relations in the world of translation" (2019). As an academic leader, Dr. Mikolič Južnič has served as co-editor for several important publications in the field, including "New horizons in translation research and education" series and "Academic writing from cross-cultural perspectives." Her teaching responsibilities include multiple Italian language courses for translators at various levels (Italian for Translators I-VI), as well as specialized courses on text competencies and translation from Slovene to Italian. Dr. Mikolič Južnič maintains an active scholarly presence through her editorial work with the journal "Stridon. Journal of studies in Translation and Interpreting" and continues to contribute to both theoretical and applied aspects of translation studies through her research and professional activities.
