Dr. Karen McConnell is a Lecturer in Children's Nursing and a paediatric physiotherapist at Queen’s University Belfast’s School of Nursing and Midwifery, part of the Faculty of Medicine, Health & Life Sciences. Her research focuses on physical activity inclusion for individuals with disabilities, cerebral palsy interventions, and evidence synthesis. She supervises PhD students in neurodisability, rehabilitation, and patient involvement in education. Key awards include the APCP Best Poster Prize (2023) and an Evidence Synthesis Ireland Fellowship (2021). Dr. McConnell leads the Mae Murray Foundation as a Non-Executive Director and chairs the Association of Paediatric Chartered Physiotherapists (APCP) in Northern Ireland. She teaches undergraduate Evidence-Based Nursing and postgraduate Musculoskeletal Care courses. Education: PhD in Nursing (Queen’s University Belfast, 2012) Research Projects: Includes a 2019 study on vestibular nerve stimulation in cerebral palsy and co-designing inclusive physical education tools. Awards: 6 prestigious prizes in research and leadership.
