Josef Kaiser is a Research Fellow at Humboldt University of Berlin's Department of Landscape Ecology, with a focus on socio-ecological systems and environmental policy. He holds an M.Sc. and completed his Ph.D. in Global Change Geography at HU Berlin in 2024. His research examines governance structures, collective action, and socio-ecological transformations, particularly in urban and rural contexts. Current roles include a postdoctoral position at the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research and a visiting scientist role at HU Berlin. Education: Ph.D. (2024), M.Sc. Global Change Geography (2019), B.Sc. Geography with Economics (2016), all from Humboldt University. Professional experience includes roles as a postdoc, research associate, and project leader in conservation policy and sustainability initiatives. Research interests span property rights, commodification processes, and biodiversity conservation, with contributions to urban sustainability through blue-green infrastructure projects. Over 10 peer-reviewed publications and book contributions address PES mechanisms, conservation conflicts, and transformative governance. Teaching includes courses on socio-ecological systems modeling and statistics. Collaborations include the Stockholm Resilience Centre and netzwerk n eV for sustainable university design.
