Jeffrey McClurken is Professor and Special Assistant to the Provost for Teaching, Technology, and Innovation at the University of Mary Washington's Department of History and American Studies. A Mary Washington College alumnus (BA History, 1994), he holds an MA (1997) and PhD (2003) in American History from Johns Hopkins University. His research examines the long-term societal impacts of historical events, with expertise in 19th-century American social/cultural history, digital humanities, gender studies, and technological change. McClurken's research investigates intersections of technology, memory, and society in American history, particularly through digital methodologies. His work emphasizes: Digital reconstructions of historical narratives (e.g., Confederate veteran families, Civil War legacies) Pedagogical innovation in digital archives and public history Gender dynamics in post-war societal structures Community-engaged digital scholarship models His publications demonstrate consistent thematic focus on digital pedagogy, historical memory, and archival access.
