Christopher Hurt, MD, FIDSA is a Professor of Medicine at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine, serving in multiple leadership roles including Associate Chief for Clinical Operations, Director of the North Carolina HIV Training & Education Center (NCHTEC), and Director of Inpatient General ID Consultation Services. As Principal Investigator for the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program Part D at UNC ID Clinic, he oversees comprehensive HIV care and prevention services. His clinical expertise focuses on HIV, hepatitis C, and sexually transmitted infections, with specialized interest in the sexual health of men who have sex with men (MSM). His research investigates structural and behavioral factors driving HIV transmission among young MSM of color in the Southeastern US, with emphasis on HIV testing behaviors, PrEP scale-up across North Carolina, sexual network dynamics, and spatial epidemiological methods. He also directs UNC's HCV treatment program for mono- and co-infected patients and oversees HIV/HCV clinical trials. Hurt's publication record demonstrates consistent contributions to infectious diseases research, particularly in HIV prevention strategies, testing methodologies, and implementation science. His recent work includes clinical trials of monoclonal antibody therapies for HIV prevention (2025), SARS-CoV-2 antibody prophylaxis (2021-2022), and implementation challenges for PrEP in clinical settings (2018). His research bridges epidemiological investigation with practical clinical applications.
