Jonathan Brown is an Assistant Professor of Practice in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Ohio State University, joining full-time in 2020. He serves as the MSE ABET Coordinator and focuses on computational materials science and undergraduate curriculum innovation. B.S. in Applied Mathematics (minor in Physics), New Mexico Tech M.S. in Applied Mathematics with Industrial Math specialization, New Mexico Tech Ph.D. in Materials Engineering (minor in Physics), New Mexico Tech His research interests span computational modeling of polymeric materials, including: Molecular dynamics simulations of polymer glasses Fluids density functional theory for ion-doped copolymers Self-consistent field theory of microphase-separated polymers Virtual reality applications in engineering education Publication trends show a dual focus on advanced materials modeling (block copolymers, ionomers, biofilms) and educational technology innovations in VR-based instruction. Junior Investigator Award , 2013 MRS Fall Meeting Graduate Research Fellowship , Sandia National Laboratory (2008-2011) Ashman Award , New Mexico Tech (2010) Tech Scholar Award , New Mexico Tech (2006) As an advisor, he has guided undergraduate researchers in polymer modeling and VR educational tools. He also contributes to outreach through: COSI public demonstrations Project GUTS programming workshops New Mexico Supercomputing Challenge mentorship He serves on the Climate and Inclusivity Committee and develops courses on computational materials science while maintaining active research collaborations in polymer systems and biomedical modeling.
